Do not listen to the Italians who say the border region is not worth a visit, or the French who only think of it as a gate to the Riviera dei Fiori. The old town centre of Vintimille is definitely worth a trip to the other side of the border. The streets edged with old houses and balconies with hanging plants breathe the authentic charm of Italy. Besides that, Vintimille counts a great number of monuments including the remainders of a Roman theatre and the Assunta cathedral, example of Norman sobriety. The town is also known for its daily market. Everybody knows this market for the counterfeits that are sold here (be aware of the many police controls!), but it mainly offers the occasion to buy Italian specialities like cooked meats, olive oil, etc.
